Approximately 8–10 black bags of household waste have been left on the pavement outside 54 Brocklehurst Street after the previous student tenants vacated the property. The refuse collection had already taken place, and the bags were not placed inside the official household waste bins, which may explain why they were not collected. They will otherwise remain there for around two weeks. Several of the bags have now split open and contain food waste. The rubbish is producing a strong smell and attracting flies and, given the current temperatures of over 30°C, is likely to attract rats and other vermin. It is also creating an obstruction on the public pavement and poses a public health concern. The property is currently being re-let, with a “To Let” sign outside with ‘reside’ agency, so the landlord or managing agent should be contacted if necessary.
